Taxying past in the photo above is Qantas Empire Airways Boeing 707-138B VH-EBJ Longreach, followed by an Air New Zealand DC-8. The Boeing 707, in particular, was responsible for bringing international air travel within the reach of many who were previously unable to afford it. QEA operated its first B707 services in 1959 - cick here to read about the inaugural Tahiti service in 1963. Below, the Air New Zealand DC-8-52, ZK-NZD, heads in the opposite direction.
